Port Elizabeth residents are “being forced to dump their own human waste at illegal dumpsites or in open fields”‚ Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate Athol Trollip said on Thursday. He said incumbent mayor Danny Jordaan had “turned his back on our people who suffer every day with 30000 undignified bucket toilets in Nelson Mandela Bay‚ by ignoring requests to solve this ongoing public health crisis”.In the same statement‚ however‚ Trollip said that the Municipal Public Accounts Committee believed “approximately 12 000 bucket toilets are being left unserviced by the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality”.“It is now undeniable that this ANC government has completely turned its back on our people who suffer this enormous indignity‚” he said.“In government‚ the DA will prioritise the eradication of all possible bucket toilets in its first term of office.”He also quoted the Bill of Rights: “Everyone has inherent dignity and the right to have their dignity respected and protected.”He added: “Getting back to basics is proving difficult for this mayor with a public health department that is failing to deliver services across the board.”..
