The crowd gathered in parliament for the #ZumaMustFall march told Cape Town premier Hellen Zille that the march was not about politicians when she arrived to join them on Wednesday morning.
Zille arrived at the march to a cheering crowd, but was warned that the gathering should not be political.
The crowd say they will remain at Parliament and not march until 11:00. Some of the participants placards read, “We miss you Madiba"; "All I want for Christmas is a new president"; "Zuma and Co: take your fingers OUT of our wallets"; and “We will not put up with an illiterate man who can't count above 70”.
Dalton Ndongeni, of Khayelitsha said, "We are here because most people in the Eastern Cape can’t get health facilities because of corruption...”
The campaigners are demanding that President Jacob Zuma be removed “because he had broken trust with the nation”.
Protest marches are also taking place in Port Elizabeth, George, Pretoria and Nelson Mandela Bay.
Zuma faced a backlash after he announced last week that he was replacing Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene with ANC MP Des van Rooyen.
There was a public outcry and calls for Zuma to be recalled over the move, which saw the rand plummet. Four days after the announcement Zuma then backtracked, replacing Van Rooyen with Pravin Gordhan as finance minister, which saw the rand recover somewhat.
This, however, did not change people's sentiments that Zuma should be removed.
