Despite President Jacob Zuma undertaking to pay back some of the money spent on upgrades to his private Nkandla home‚ the Economic Freedom Fighters and Democratic Alliance still plan to challenge him in court next week. The two parties had brought applications to the Constitutional Court to confirm that the president must adhere to the remedial action recommended by public protector Thuli Madonsela in her report‚ "Secure in Comfort".In response‚ Zuma proposed to the Constitutional Court this week that the auditor general and the minister of finance should determine the amount he should repay.Zuma said he accepted that some of the upgrades such as the swimming pool and visitors centre were not security-related‚ and signalled that he was willing to pay the part of the R246-million spent on those upgrades.The court asked the parties to indicate by 4pm on Friday whether they had managed to reach a settlement which would keep the case out of court.But the DA’s spokesperson on justice‚ Glynnis Breytenbach‚ said on Friday afternoon that the party will argue the case in the Constitutional Court on Tuesday.The EFF said in a press conference on Thursday that it wants Zuma to accept that he has breached the Constitution and his oath of office. Only then will the party be satisfied.In a statement this week‚ Kgalalelo Masibi of the public Ppotector's office said: “Her [Madonsela's] standpoint remains that the remedial action taken in her report must be given effect in full unless she has been fully engaged and has relaxed aspects thereof to accommodate changed or unforeseen circumstances.” ..
