Infrastructure the main focus of Gauteng budget

The Gauteng Provincial Governments budget will increase by R6.3-billion in 2016/17‚ motivated by the increase in expenditure on health‚ education and infrastructure.The province will spend R41.6-billion over the 2016 Medium Term Expenditure Framework on infrastructure.Among the infrastructure projects to receive funding is the medium term budget of R1.9-billion‚ which will go towards completing and upgrading health infrastructure and build community health centres across the province.Education infrastructure will see the completion of 12 new schools currently under construction with a budget of R3-billion as well as the rehabilitation of 123 existing schools.R5.2-billion for human settlement infrastructure will be for the implementation of mega-projects‚ which include Savanna City and‚ amongst others‚ Chief Mogale projects and revamping mining towns.Road and transport infrastructure received a budget boost of R2.3-billion.The overall highlights are:- The health budget increased by R2-billion to R37.4-billion;- Education increased by R2.63-billion to R 39.06-billion;- Social development received R4.2-billion;- Sports‚ arts‚ cultural and recreation received R821-million; and- Community safety has been allocated R718-million an increase from R652.8-million. – TMG Local Government Team..
