Move budget debate so Gordhan can attend‚ says DA

Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan will not be attending the parliamentary debate on the budget on Wednesday‚ the DA said. Gordhan is abroad on an investor roadshow and will not attend the debate on the fiscal framework in Parliament.While the DA approved the wooing of investors‚ it said it was unacceptable that the minister would not be debating his plans to avoid a ratings downgrade.“The fact that the Minister is on an investor roadshow trying to build confidence amongst concerned investors is important given the fact that we are hurtling towards junk status in South Africa‚” the DA said. “However‚ it’s simply not acceptable for the Minister to skip the debate on the fiscal framework in Parliament. The Minister tabled a how-to-beat-a-ratings-downgrade budget in Parliament. And he should be present to debate his how-to-beat-a-ratings-downgrade budget in Parliament.”The DA has proposed that the debate be moved to next Wednesday so Gordhan can attend the proceedings...
