Mchunu: Some among us still have the hang-up of the old SA

21 March 2016 - 15:13 By Matthew Savides

The controversies surrounding President Jacob Zuma – including the alleged “state capture” by the Gupta family – appeared to matter little as he walked into the Moses Mabhida Stadium to thunderous applause. More than 30000 people had filled the stadium bowl shortly after midday on Monday‚ waiting for Zuma to deliver the main address at the Human Rights Day rally. Human Rights Day is being held under the theme of “South Africa United Against Racism”.The first speaker‚ KwaZulu-Natal premier Senzo Mchunu‚ told the ever-growing crowd that any racist comments – such as those by retired estate agent Penny Sparrow – are not welcome in the country.“Those were remarks and utterances that showed that there are still those among us who still have the hang-up of the old South Africa‚” he said.“They created unnecessary racial tension. We condemn any form of racism directed to any member of society.“We are saying to those who still have this hang-up‚ the colour of today's South Africa is one of non-racialism.To those who still had the “old” mindset‚ Mchunu said: “We invite you to the new South Africa.” – TMG Digital/Sunday Times..
