ANC councillor shot dead at violence-prone hostel

The ANC in Durban is reeling after one of its councillors‚ Zodwa Sibiya‚ was shot and killed at the city’s notorious Glebelands hostel on Saturday night. Details are scarce at this stage‚ but two party sources confirmed the incident. According to community activists monitoring the violence-prone hostel precinct‚ 61 people have been killed there in the last two years – Sibiya’s murder would be the 62nd.The ANC’s communications team said a statement on the killing was being prepared.DA provincial leader Zwakele Mncwango described Sibiya as a “dedicated councillor who stood firm on fighting corruption in the hostel and the whole of eThekwini”.“It is a sad day in eThekwini and the whole province when we lose someone who is steadfast on protecting good governance. She will be missed‚” he said...
