Mbalula's ban clashes with international sporting regulations: AfriForum

Sports minister Fikile Mbalula's prohibition on SA Rugby‚ Cricket SA‚ Netball SA and Athletics SA hosting international sporting events clashes with international sporting regulations‚ says AfriForum. The civil rights organisation said on Monday that international sport regulations expressly forbid any form of political interference in sport.Mbalula bans rugby, cricket federations from bidding for major tournamentsAfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel‚ said the organisation would instruct its legal team to investigate what steps were necessary to submit complaints to international sports bodies.Mbalula punishes sporting federations for lack of transformation“The Minister’s prohibition is nothing more than blackmailing sports bodies into imposing Government’s racial ideology of transformation‚” said Kriel.He said government was the greatest obstacle to ensuring access for all South Africans to sport event.“It is also government’s responsibility to provide sporting facilities and a good functioning education system where children are exposed to sport.” TMG Digital..
