Sadtu calling the shots as ‘Jobs for Cash’ report delayed again: DA

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has blamed the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) for the postponement of the controversial “Jobs for Cash” report that Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga was due for release on Friday. This follows the department’s announcement on Friday that it had postponed the release of the report by two weeks‚ to allow stakeholders it met this week to give inputs on it.“Minister Motshekga’s failure today to release the ‘Jobs for Cash’ report in the face of Sadtu pressure is inexcusable.“Her failure to release the ‘Jobs for Cash’ report has nothing to do with matters of process‚ and everything to do with pressure from Sadtu‚” the DA said in a statement. The party said Motshekga’s postponement of the release is an admission of her own powerlessness.“It is clearly Sadtu‚ not Motshekga‚ who calls the shots in our education system.”Meanwhile‚ Sadtu said it welcomed the postponement‚ but with “caution” .The union’s spokesperson‚ Xolani Fakude‚ had this to say: “The department likes making commitments through statements to the media. We hope that they will give us an opportunity to make our oral and written submissions”.Fakude confirmed that Sadtu was part of the meetings Motshekga held with various stakeholders this week. The meetings‚ he said‚ were only for “administrative purposes”.“The report cannot be final until we are given an opportunity give our views on it‚” Fakude said. - TMG Digital..
