The award‚ from the German Africa Foundation‚ is bestowed on Africans who demonstrate exceptional commitment towards promoting peace‚ rule of law‚ democracy‚ human rights and culture on the African continent.
“As the Public Protector team‚ we do not seek any recognition or awards but we are encouraged when other people appreciate what we are doing‚" Madonsela said in a statement. “We do our work in pursuit of our constitutional duty to support and strengthen constitutional democracy and all of it guided by our desire to ensure that our country continues to pursue the rule of law.”
The Public Protector will receive the award in October in Berlin‚ Germany.
