Municipal merger costs Gauteng R25 million

The Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has allocated R25 million to facilitate the merger of two municipalities. MEC Paul Mashatile‚ who was speaking at the legislature‚ confirmed that the merger of Randfontein and Westonaria local municipality would go ahead as approved by the Municipal Demarcation Board.Mashatile also said his department would work closely with municipalities to fight corruption.He said the City of Tshwane‚ Randfontein/Westonaria‚ Ekurhuleni‚ Lesedi‚ Midvaal and Emfuleni would be monitored over four years to strengthen their ethics and anti-corruption capacity."We will endeavour to achieve 100 percent clean audits for all municipalities‚" he said...
