KZN’s new premier wields axe in cabinet reshuffle

In what could be referred to as a bloody Monday in the KwaZulu-Natal government‚ four MECs were axed. Leading the pack of new government faces is African National Congress (ANC) provincial chairman Sihle Zikalala‚ who replaced Mike Mabuyakhulu as MEC for economic development‚ tourism and environmental affairs.KZN Premier Willies Mchunu made the announcement at a hastily convened press briefing.He also named former ANC Youth League provincial leader Mxolisi Kaunda as the new MEC for transport‚ safety and liaison - the position recently vacated by current premier Willies Mchunu.Former uMgungundlovu district mayor Bongi Sithole-Moloi replaces sports‚ arts and culture MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha.Firebrand provincial secretary of the South African Communist Party Themba Mthembu takes over from Cyril Xaba as MEC for agriculture and rural development.ANC Moses Mabhida regional chair and former ANCYL provincial chair Mthandeni Dlungwane is now education MEC taking over from Peggy Nkonyeni.His appointment comes amidst the death of several ANC leaders in his region last week.The reshuffle follows the resignation of former premier Senzo Mchunu two weeks ago...
