Violence is not the answer‚ cabinet minister tells protesters

Chairperson of government's security cluster Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has called for communities to use proper channels to protests and not violence. “Government reiterates that violence is not the answer. Our democracy offers many avenues for people or communities to address any grievances. We therefore call on communities to raise grievances within the confines of the law. Those who ultimately decide to exercise their right to protest are advised to do so in a peaceful and orderly manner‚” said Mapisa-Nqakula.Security cluster cabinet ministers meet over Tshwane violenceDefence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula‚ State Security Minister David Mahlobo and Gauteng Premier David Makhura have arrived at Tshedimosetso House in Hatfield and are holding a meeting ahead of a planned media briefing. The minister also said 20 cases were being investigated and “some arrests have been made and some are in court”. She said the cases arising from the protests would be prioritised in courts. ..
