‘Joburg advertising money being used for ANC electioneering’: DA

Joburg mayor Parks Tau is being taken to the Electoral Commission (IEC) because the Democratic Alliance (DA) believes the “city’s excessive advertising…is being used for blatant African National Congress (ANC) electioneering. The opposition party’s mayoral candidate‚ Herman Mashaba‚ and its federal executive chairperson‚ James Selfe‚ will lay the complaint against Tau‚ who has been nominated by the ANC to retain his position‚ on Friday at the IEC’s Parktown offices.The DA said the use of “millions of rand worth of taxpayer’s money…threatens the fairness of the elections and is in contravention of the Municipal Electoral Act”.Mashaba said he will outline “the interventions the DA is requesting from the IEC‚ as well as possible alternative avenues should the IEC not heed our calls to intervene”; while Selfe will use the opportunity to “detail how his Private Member’s Bill on Free and Fair Elections will prevent such abuse of taxpayer’s money in future”...
