Johannesburg is one of the most hotly contested battlegrounds in the upcoming local government elections as parties fight for the hearts and minds of voters.Who would you choose as the new mayor of the city? Business Day TV asked three politicians to lay their cards on the table and spell out what they would do to improve life in the City of Gold. Here they are‚ in their own words. You decide:Floyd Shivambu - the deputy president of the Economic Freedom Fighters‚ which said it would not announce mayoral candidates - is on a mission to create jobs in the city‚ which he accused of building bicycle lanes in Sandton instead of abolishing informal settlements. “They focus on rubbish collection in rich areas …. . Johannesburg is no longer the productive capital of South Africa‚” he said.Democratic Alliance mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba‚ described by many as a political novice‚ said his priority is tackling unemployment in the city. He also spoke out against “political entrepreneurs – those that have identified an opportunity for them to loot our country”.African National Congress mayor Parks Tau‚ giving the city’s end of term report‚ spelt out his vision for a truly transformed and inclusive city‚ and addressed a critical report by the Auditor-General about billions of rands in unauthorised expenditure.- TMG Digital..
