Don't take photos or selfies with your marked ballot papers. That's the warning from the Independent Electoral Commission provincial electoral officer Mawethu Mosery in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday. Mosery was speaking at a state of readiness press briefing ahead of the country's local government elections on August 3. "It's illegal because it compromises the secrecy of the ballot‚" he said. He said the IEC has geared itself up for the unlikely scenario of a 100% voter turnout during the polls. "There are 5.4-million registered voters in the province and we do expect they will all turn up to vote judging by the excitement out there. Mosery said that with exactly two weeks to go before the poll‚ everything was on track.
