‘Protesters should take concerns to ANC-run government‚’ DA students say ahead of picket
The Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (Daso) stressed that its “picket at institutions of higher education” on Friday is “not against students who wish to learn”. Instead‚ leader Yusuf Cassim said: “The fight is against an uncaring African National Congress (ANC) and their warped priorities.”He said that “ANC-sponsored funding crisis …has been a long time in the making”.“The chronic under-funding of universities has meant that poor students and the ‘missing middle’ have been left behind‚” Cassim opined.“This stands against everything the DA believes in. In a fair society‚ the circumstances of your birth shouldn’t determine your prospects for success in life.”High unemployment and a weakening economy have “caused anger and frustration for so many of our young people”‚ and as the ANC had “ignored this… student groups aligned to them to disrupt teaching and shut-down campuses‚ instead of taking their concerns to ANC-run government departments”‚ he said.“This has denied many people their right to education‚” Cassim added.The pickets will take place at at the University of the Witwatersrand‚ University of Pretoria‚ University of Johannesburg and the University of South Africa. - TMG Digital..
