Cosatu appears to have taken a decision to ban President Jacob Zuma from addressing its central committee meetings.

Business Day reported on Tuesday that the federation’s central committee had decided on Monday to inform the African National Congress (ANC) of its decision.

The move is likely to escalate tensions within the tripartite alliance. Zuma was prevented from speaking at Cosatu’s main May Day celebration in Bloemfontein by workers who were booing.

Cosatu‚ which is holding a central executive committee meeting next week‚ has apparently told leaders that it would prefer to be addressed by deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa.

The federation has been vocal in its criticism of Zuma as leader of the country. Cosatu is holding a briefing in Johannesburg on Tuesday about its recent special central executive committee meeting.
