Internet hacking activist group Anonymous has crashed the websites belonging to Westboro Baptist Church after being convinced to by the religious group's spokesperson Shirley Phelps-Roper.

The church, founded by the Phelps family is noted for their anti-gay hate-speech and protesting over soldiers’ funerals and had previously been the subject of a “warning” that Anonymous had dismissed as a hoax.

The hacker collective pointed out that it stands for freedom of speech, already had enough on its plate with the protest action it was planning in the Middle East, and frankly weren’t that interested in an online war with the Phelps family church to begin with.

This changed however as Shirley Phelps-Roper repeatedly interrupted a source from within Anonymous on The David Pakman Show as he tried to explain Anonymous’ position.

After the source from anonomous admited to " OVER 9000 sins" (a reference to a popular online meme), Shirley told the hacker that if he didn’t repent he would go to hell. This prompted the source to tell her that he had a surprise for her – during the interview the collective had lost its patience and hacked the Westboro Baptist Church’s websites.
