MW3 mission accomplished
GAME: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3)
AGE: 18+
PRICE: R550
CALL of Duty: MW3 is the last of the subseries of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games.
It is a serious first-person shooter, and due to the storyline in campaign mode, has become a love-it or hate-it affair.
The game still manages to bring a fresher feel to the franchise.
If you haven't played Call of Duty: MW2, be warned, you will be left confused for much of this game, as it begins from where you left off in the previous one, just like a third part of a movie trilogy would.
The gameplay is just as good as Call of Duty: MW2, if not smoother. If you have played any first-person shooter you will pick it up easily, which explains why you do not have the forced tutorial you had in the previous game.
The graphics and firefights are breathtaking.
The game leads you through epic gun battles, from the heart of New York and London to militia strongholds in Somalia.
The pace is relentless, giving you few moments to catch your breath, which for some is not a good thing. All in all, the game seems to round off the story well.
If you thought the single-player campaign was good, multiplayer mode is dangerously addictive. The game has seemingly endless customisation options .
The killstreak system from previous games has been refined into a points-based system that gives players more balance.
Call of Duty Elite is a premium online service that enhances the action , but for $50 a year, (the same price of the game), does one really need that option? There are about 16 maps to choose from.
THE GOOD
The graphics and gameplay are top notch. The multiplayer mode has one coming back for more.
THE BAD
As good as the game is, it has its highs and lows and can become a bit monotonous and frustrating in parts.
RATING: 7.5
