Even though atmostpheric shooter Metro: Last Light isn't due until early 2013, publisher THQ is preparing to whet appetites with a short film on May 24.

The game will follow  Metro 2033, which was based on the gripping Russian novel of the same name, but Last Light is a continuation of 2033's themes rather than an adaptation of its canonical sequel Metro 2034.

A claustrophobic subway system hosted most of the previous game's action, with occasional forays to Moscow's surface, ravaged as it was by post-apocalyptic conditions and mutated animals.

PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title  Metro: Last Light lines up alongside Crysis 3, BioShock Infinite and Tomb Raider as fellow candidates for release during the same window; it's also one of a few titles already announced for the Nintendo Wii U.
