Obama victory tweet the most retweeted ever

AFP Relaxnews | 07 November, 2012 13:29

After winning a second term as President of the United States on Tuesday, Barack Obama took to Twitter to express his joy and congratulate his supporters.

A tweet from his account quickly became what appears to be the most popular message ever posted on the microblogging site.

After Obama won the election, a tweet from his account (@BarackObama) was sent that read "Four more years," accompanied by a photo of him hugging his wife Michelle.

Within three hours the message had been shared over 472,000 times, even surpassing the popularity of messages from Twitter heavyweights such as Justin Bieber. At 10am GMT the message had reached over 547,000 retweets.

While unconfirmed by Twitter, the tweet appears to be the most retweeted ever. Previously the most re-tweeted tweet was from Justin Bieber who, in response to the death of six-year-old fan Avalanna Routh from an agressive form of brain cancer, tweeted "RIP Avalanna. I love you." Bieber's message was re-tweeted over 200,000 times.
