Police and wildlife authorities in Grahamstown are moving a rhino that has been on the loose near the N2 in Salem, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

“This morning the rhino was spotted in between thick bushes and with the help of the air unit we are in the process of moving it,” spokeswoman Mali Govender said.

The rhino escaped from a game reserve when it was being moved.

A motorist saw it and called the police.

“The animal had been sedated while being transferred from another game reserve, and managed to break out after it woke up,” said Govender.
