Man crowdfunds surgery for his tortoise's penis

A hard up pet lover has turned to crowdfunding website gofundme to help pay for surgery on his pet tortoise's penis.

Miles Jelfs adopted Cedric the tortoise from a friend, only to find it suffered from a painful prolapse of the cloaca, according to the Bristol Post.

Unfortunately surgery for the tortoise was a bit more than Jelfs could afford, costing £350.

"I'm not very well off and I don't come from a very affluent family, and I don't have a lot of disposable income.

"It will be causing him a lot of pain and you can tell when he walks that it is not very comfortable for him, poor little guy.

"And if it was left without treatment it could certainly be fatal," Jelfs said.

Thus Jelfs turned to the Internet for help - a strategy that has paid off. As of writing this article, Jelfs has raised £505 for Cedric's operation.

The surgery will apparently go ahead once the tortoise has picked up some weight, as he is too thin and anaemic for it right now.
