A photographer and shark expert witnessed a single Cape Fur seal ripping the guts out of five sharks and eating them near Cape Point.

According to IFLScience, Chris Fallows first documented a shark ripping the guts out of a blue shark back in 2004, but it wasn't until 2012 that he ever saw the likes of it again.

Apparently a baited dive for tourists near Cape Point was rudely interrupted by a Cape fur seal.

The seal viciously attacked and killed five out of the ten large blue sharks that were present, eating their guts.

“In more than 2,000 expeditions working with sharks over the last 21 years,” Fallows said at the time, “this is the only time I have ever seen a seal kill several sharks and I can find no record of such an event happening elsewhere.”

Now Fallows observation have been published in the African Journal of Marine Science.
