At first I wasn't that keen on the Philips G272G5 monitor - mainly because of the set-up it has with its plugs.

To me a high end monitor is a bit of an investment, so you don't want a situation where you can't plug it into your uninterrupted power supply (UPS).

Particularly in South Africa, where we have load shedding and occasional power surges when the power comes back on.

So standard cabling is pretty important - and this monitor does not have that. Worse, it uses a two pin plug which is just a hassle.

If I am going to spend a whole load of money on something, well I think it is fair to give me an Earth wire.

Then I saw the recommended retail price - R9,469.

This is a 27 inch Gsynch monitor that runs at 144mhz. It runs at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Apart from its awkward plug set-up it has everything going for it that you would find in the AOC 2460PG, except it is bigger, a better regarded brand and a few hundred rand cheaper.

It also relies on an HDMI cable to connect to your computer. Given the price tag I don't think you would want this for an old-ish laptop, but just check that your computer has the correct ports before buying it.

So far as looks go - I have no complaints. The screen reduces glare quite nicely, it has an excellent stand, the build quality is good - it offers just about everything.

Sure the price tag is still a bit more than I would normally be willing to spend - but given what else is in this specific market it is very competitive.

You can check out its full specs here.

Just be aware that you may need a different cable to make it work with your UPS, which you should have because they're cheaper than replacing just about anything in your computer.
