Men who suck at videogames are more likely to respond aggressively to a woman's voice during play, according to a study.

Research published in the online journal PloS One found that men who are bad at videogames respond more aggressively to women's voices in play than men who are good at them.

The researchers wanted to understand why sexism seems to rise as women enter a male dominated arena - and why it is #notallmen who behave in such a manner.

The researchers hypothesised that sexist pricks are in fact losers in the game of virtual life, and thus face a greater risk of losing more status than men who were any good.

To test this they used Halo 3.

Their findings confirmed the hypothesis. Gamers who sucked were much nastier to players with female voices, particularly when getting their asses kicked.

Moreover, they were also more submissive to male players.

Meanwhile the male gamers who were good at the game were more welcoming to female players than male ones.
