Water shortages in Kwa-Zulu Natal aren't just a problem for humans - as this black rhino recently discovered.
According to Takepart, the rhino had become trapped in the middle of what once was a watering hole in the Phinda Private Game Reserve.
“I am not entirely sure how he ended up in the middle of this muddy water hole. On this particular day there was a little surface water, and I think he could smell it and tried to get to it and got stuck in the process,” said Phinda conservation manager Simon Naylor.
Being stuck in the mud doesn't do much to help a rhino's mood, and its rescuers didn't want to dart it in case it ended up drowning.
The reserve has lost six rhinos to poachers over the past few years, they didn't want to lose another.
So they ended up having to use heavy machinery to successfully dig it out.
Once out of the mud, the rhino walked off into the bush.
