Crayfish poachers in hot water as SAPS make second big bust

Western Cape police have made a second big bust in their clampdown on the illegal trade in crayfish. Police pulled over a VW Caddy carrying crayfish on the N2 travelling towards Cape Town near the turnoff to Botriver on Tuesday‚ Captain FC van Wyk said on Wednesday. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 4‚544 crayfish tails and 114 whole crayfish.Abalone poachers ditch R1 million haul after Hout Bay boat chaseAbalone worth nearly R1-million was seized by police after a boat chase in Cape Town early on Friday. The driver‚ a 50-year-old man‚ was arrested and his vehicle confiscated‚ Capt van Wyk said.He is due to appear in the Caledon Magistrates Court on Thursday on charges of illegal possession of crayfish and transporting crayfish without permit.On Monday‚ Western Cape police also arrested two men caught red-handed with 946 crayfish tails valued at R250‚000 in the boot of their car on the N2 near Freshwood‚ Grabouw. The two men aged 31 and 44 are to stand trial for illegal possession of crayfish tails...
