The Telkom Digital Gaming League Masters Final is taking place from October 7 to 9 at rAge 2016, the gaming and technology expo held in Johannesburg.
The first season of the new format of the Telkom Digital Gaming League (DGL) concludes in October with the Masters Final. Teams from each of the eight Masters Multi-Gaming Organisations (MGOs) will compete for R1-million – the largest e-sports cash prize pool in South African history.
The Telkom DGL has become the pinnacle of e-sports in South Africa from both a financial and a technological perspective.
“Telkom took the decision in January to back e-sports,” says Jacqui O’Sullivan, managing executive of group communication and public relations at Telkom. “Since the launch, we have seen tremendous growth in this sector, with new tournaments opening up and other large prize pools being offered.
“This is all good news for e-sports and we are excited by the opportunities this gives the MGOs and sponsors alike.”
The Masters Final will see two tournaments: both Counter-Strike and Dota 2 will be played at the rAge expo. As is the norm, the eight MGOs have different teams taking part in the two games.
The Telkom DGL has another surprise in store for fans. Paul “ReDeYe” Chaloner, one of the world’s foremost e-sports shoutcasters, will be back in Johannesburg to host the finals. Taking centre stage with ReDeYe will be Kamza Mbatha, Ryan Macquet and Tech Girl’s Samantha Wright. This makes for an exciting line-up on stage at the finals at rAge and for the live-stream.
The MGOs competing at Masters level this year are:
Aperture Gaming
Bravado Gaming
CarboN eSports
Damage Control
Flipsid3 Tactics South Africa
Veneration E-Sports
White Rabbit Gaming
Xperts@Total.Chaos
All games will be streamed live here.
