Cango Caves reopens after closing to check for tremor damage
Cango Caves reopened at midday after being assessed following a tremor on Tuesday morning.
Oudtshoorn municipal spokesman Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe said its disaster management team checked the caves‚ confirmed that there was no damage and it would be safe to reopen.
Earlier‚ a slight tremor occurred along the Cango fault line north of Oudtshoorn. It measured 3.4 on the Richter scale and is calculated to have originated at a depth of 6km.
Mangqwengqwe said earthquakes were not common in the area: “The last one‚ I am told‚ was in the ’60s.”
