Two people have been arrested by Western Cape police after being found in possession of a large quantity of crayfish.

Police spokesman Captain FC VAN Wyk said that members of the police K9 Unit‚ acting on information that crayfish was being transported illegally to Cape Town‚ had pulled over a suspicious vehicle in Faure Marine Drive‚ Gordon's Bay‚ and searched the vehicle.

“In the vehicle they found plastic bags containing 3‚015 crayfish tails and 60 whole crayfish‚ with an estimated street value of R100‚000‚” said Van Wyk.

“The two suspects‚ aged 23 and 34 years old respectively‚ were arrested for possession and transportation of crayfish in contravention of Marine Coastal Management regulations. They will appear in Strand Magistrates Court on Monday‚” he added.
