The ANC Youth League said on Monday it would visit shops, garages, hotels and restaurants on Wednesday to make sure the owners were allowing staff a chance to vote.

Spokesman Floyd Shivambu said the ANCYL had heard that some employers "are expecting their employees to report for work on Wednesday... in a manner that will deprive them the opportunity to vote".

"Wednesday is a public holiday and all employers should make concrete arrangements for their employees to ensure that they have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right of voting.

"All ANC Youth League structures across the country will visit shops, garages, restaurants, hotels and all areas of work to inspect if employers have allowed their employees time and space to exercise their democratic right."
