Orlando Pirates are tipped to win the race to sign Sifiso Myeni, the Premier Soccer League's hottest property, in the January transfer window.

Myeni, the exciting 23-year-old Wits winger, is being pursued by the big three of the PSL, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and the Buccaneers. He is expected to sail away on the Pirates ship.

Wits general manager George Mogotsi confirmed yesterday that the three were interested in Myeni. He said Wits would not stand in the player's way "if the offer is good".

Myeni even had talks with Johan Neeskens, coach of Sundowns, a club he once vowed never to join because "careers die there".

Chiefs have been quiet about their approaches, while Pirates have been brazen.

"We have had very long and interesting discussions with his agent and I can confirm these are progressing very well," said Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza.

"We will make an announcement soon."

The Times understands the announcement could be made tomorrow - from the Pirates camp.

"He has a tough choice to make," said Mogotsi.

Mogotsi said Myeni had sought advice also from Wits coach Roger de Sa.

"These are big teams, and he is a bit confused at this stage," said Mogotsi.

"But the player has to make up his mind. The club wants to leave that decision to him even though we can give him some direction as he's been here for a while."

If Pirates are indeed successful it would be their second big signing of the week, after former Portuguese international Luis Boa Morte on Tuesday.

Myeni joined Wits from the colts team in 2008 and has since featured in two cup finals - the Nedbank Cup in 2010 and this season's Telkom Knockout - for the Clever Boys. He has until the end of the week to decide where he will be when the PSL resumes on February 15.
