Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacios says the reigning Absa Premiership champions have not been derailed from the defence of their title by two draws in as many matches.

The 1-0 defeat of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns by Maritzburg United had presented Pirates with a glorious chance to extend their lead atop the table to four points. But the Buccaneers buckled under pressure and managed only a drab, goalless draw against Wits at Orlando stadium on Saturday night.

Coming on the back of the 0-0 stalemate with Moroka Swallows, this latest draw means that Pirates have now dropped four points out of a possible six.

But Palacios is adamant that he has got the Pirates ship sailing towards the team's fourth championship since the inception of the PSL, and points to the league table to support his argument.

"We are still on top of the table, correct?" said Palacios.

"We are accumulating points. We have our destiny firmly in our own hands.

"We don't care what happens with the other contenders. The most important thing for us is not to lose."

Palacios says Bucs will regain their scoring touch and return to winning ways. Their next two matches are on the road, first against Ajax Cape Town - who lost 2-1 to Supersport United - and then against Gavin Hunt's Supersport.

A home fixture against Bloemfontein Celtic will be followed by the final match of the campaign away to Golden Arrows.

Against Ajax on Friday night, they will have to do without the services of Oupa Manyisa, who has been suspended after picking up his third yellow card.

Palacios said that he would direct a lot of energy into fine-tuning his team's finishing in the preparation for the Ajax match.

He conceded that Bucs had not been able to find ways to unlock the Wits defence and even likened counterpart Roger de Sa's approach to the game to that of Jose Mourinho.
