Argentina scored a late try to complete a come-from-behind 23-20 win over France on Saturday night. It is now 14 years since the French have won a test in Argentina.

France led 14-13 at halftime in the match in Cordoba, before stretching their advantage at the Mario Kempes stadium to 20-13 with two further second-half penalties by scrum-half Morgan Parra.

But Argentina, fresh from a 37-22 win over Italy the previous weekend, hit back with a penalty by skipper Felipe Contepomi before a try three minutes from time from winger Manuel Montero, converted by Contepomi to give the Pumas victory.

France, whose last win in Argentina came in 1998, had led at the interval thanks to a 25th-minute try by No 8 Louis Picamoles and three penalties from Parra.

The Pumas face the Springboks at Newlands on August 18 in the new Four Nations rugby tournament which has been extended from the Tri-Nations.

In Tokyo, Eddie Jones's Japan led Samoa 16-0 before losing 27-26.

Samoa survived a late onslaught to win the Pacific Nations Cup. Japan had been the defending champions.

Samoa finished the four-team competition with three straight wins, but it was a disastrous tournament for Japan, who lost all three of their games.

Tonga and Fiji are out of contention ahead of Saturday's dead rubber.

Kurtley Beale is in line to make his Wallaby comeback in Saturday's final test against Wales, despite facing a police charge for assault.

The 23-year-old Beale was allegedly in an altercation with security guards at a Brisbane hotel ahead of Australia's first test against Wales earlier this month.

He has been out of action through injury.
