An emotional Roger de Sa joined the mounting calls for the entire weekend's Premier Soccer League programme to be called off in the wake of the killing of Senzo Meyiwa.

"To call the derby off was the right thing to do and I'd like to have had the rest of the programme called off too," the Ajax Cape Town coach said yesterday.

"It has affected me badly and there are many of my players who also played with Senzo who have been touched."

Ajax host Supersport United at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday as the rest of the PSL matches go ahead, despite calls from many players from other clubs to also be allowed to mourn Meyiwa.

De Sa had Meyiwa as his first-choice goalkeeper when he was at Orlando Pirates and was close to the 27-year-old.

Even after leaving Pirates , De Sa kept contact with Meyiwa, speaking to him at least twice a week and meeting him in Johannesburg for an occasional dinner.

De Sa was in tears as he spoke about his relationship with Meyiwa and the adventures they had together in last year's African Champions League.

"I suppose we have to just get on with it but it has been a sad time," he said.

"There has to be a time to mourn and then there will be a time to put it all away and get on with life."
