The contractor appointed to fix the leaking roof of King's Park swimming pool complex was called back to site in December - and this week - following concerns relating to "unacceptable workmanship".

In response to a video clip, shared on TimesLive, showing Saturday's downpour lashing the inside of the indoor pool arena during the city Grand Prix Gala, eThekwini Municipality said the leaking roof was brought to the contractor's attention in December.

Municipal spokesman Thabo Mofokeng said the contractor was currently on site to repair the roof.

He said the R3-million rehabilitation of the swimming pool roof structure began in June last year.

"The work is inspected regularly by a consultant and relevant municipal departments and there are monthly feedback meetings. The project is monitored by the architectural department and the challenges with regards to unacceptable workmanship have been highlighted," Mofokeng said.

The popular swimming complex is likely to be one of the venues for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, should the Durban, the only candidate city, host the event.

SOME OF YOUR REACTIONS TO THE VIDEO @TIMESLIVE ON FACEBOOK

Quintin Erasmus - You can build a whole new one for that price.

Xaba Vusi - That money leaked into their pockets.

Ayabulela Milani Ayamila - Lol but very bad for development.

Sipho Sehloho - They can use the firepool at Nkandla.

Thabo Mtaner - "One bucket of paint and a R3 000 000 bill". Lol, very expensive paint hey.

Thamsanqa Duma - Which company won the tender?? They must come and fix it...

Philippe Roche - Name and shame the company that did it and the people that appointed them.

Eloise Botha - Tenderpreneurs, most probably with no experience, one bucket of paint and a R3 000 000 bill. Uncle or cousin of a high-profile ANC cadre. Now they have to do it again, most probably at a higher cost, cause the tenderpreneur did not know what he was doing and caused damage that now needs to be fixed...on top of the roof that still leaks.

Thokozan Zibani - R3m tender but only to find out that only R500000 used.

Nomfundo Nontobeko Menzi - Warranty?????

Keith Gregson - Give the guys a break, that was the other part of the system/complex that wasn't quoted on -in other words, that's the next job to be done, another R_-_-_-_-_-oo
