Surprise as Bucs hire Ertugral

Orlando Pirates last night announced the surprise appointment of Muhsin Ertugral as the club's new head coach, replacing Eric Tinkler. Just last week Ertugral, still in charge of Mpumalanga Black Aces - who were recently bought by former Ajax Cape Town director John Comitis - told The Times "there is a lot we still need to discuss" in terms of the club's relocation to Cape Town. I have to meet the chairman and management and understand what platforms have been provided for the new club."I need to understand what the makeup of my technical team will be, which is very important to me," he said last week. There was no indication he was intending to exit the club, which he guided to a fourth-place finish in the Absa Premiership, ahead of more fancied teams such as Kaizer Chiefs, whom he coached between 1999 and 2003 and in the 2006-2007 season. He won several trophies with the club, with the exception of the league title."I have worked on three continents and I know that before any contract is signed, there is a lot that needs to be talked about. But in terms of my personal details, there is no problem at all. I am happy."The 56-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Soweto giants yesterday."I'm excited about the prospect of working for Orlando Pirates . It's an absolute honour to be at the helm of one of the biggest clubs in Africa. This is a club with great history and tradition."The club said Ertugral "will find all he needs". ..
