Bolt started stretching and physical workouts on Monday at his training base at the University of West Indies Mona Campus, doing abdominal and push-ups exercises ahead of a plan return to running work next week.

"I was just trying to feel myself out," Bolt said.

The Beijing Olympic hero said he always enjoyed the "first day back" at training.

Glen Mills, Bolt's coach, said that these are the first steps toward a return to a full training regimen, which will not come for a couple weeks, until after a visit to the IAAF Gala in Monaco on November 22.

"He will start full training when he returns from Monte Carlo," Mills said.

Bolt described the past season as "wonderful" after breaking his own world records from the Beijing Olympics to complete a world title double.

The Jamaican star won the 100 metres in a world-record 9.58 seconds and the 200m in a world record 19.19 seconds at Berlin - he was also part of the Jamaican quartet who set a world record for the 4x100m relay at the Olympics.
