Football boss supports Eto'o
Cameroon football supremo Iya Mohammed has come to the support of captain Samuel Eto'o who is reportedly pondering a World Cup withdrawal after being criticised for his national team showings.
"The Cameroonian Football Federation fully supports the national coach Paul Leguen, captain Samuel Eto'o and all of our national team," Mohammed said in a short statement on the federation (Fecafoot) website on Saturday.
"Following statements made in the media by some major figures of our football which disturb the serenity of our national team, Fecafoot invites the public to remain united around athlete of the Indomitable Lions in a spirit of responsibility so that they can worthily represent Cameroon."
Eto'o, 29, was recently criticised by several people including former star player Roger Milla for doing well on club level at Barcelona and now Inter Milan, but not in the national team.
The statements had prompted Eto'o to consider not playing for the four-time African champions at next month's World Cup, where Cameroon play the Netherlands, Denmark and Japan in group E.
Eto'o is set to join the team on Monday after getting a week off following Inter's Champions League triumph on May 22.
The team is training in Austria and was held to two draws in recent tune-up games, 0-0 against Georgia and 1-1 against Slovakia.
