Outright victories are an unlikely prospect in two of the latest round of SuperSport Series matches as inclement weather continues to play havoc around the country.

The Lions held the upper hand over the Knights at stumps on the third day of their match in Bloemfontein. The Knights were 124 for five in their first innings at stumps, still trailing the Lions, who had amassed 339 for six declared in their first innings, by 215 runs.

Knights opener Dean Elgar held the innings together with a fighting 66 not out and were it not for his resolve, the hosts would have been in the mire.

The only other batsman to reach double figures was Ryan McLaren (18 not out), who had joined Elgar with the total on a precarious 95 for five.

Ethan O'Reilly and Friedel de Wet took two wickets each for the Lions, while the promising Dale Deeb took the last wicket to fall on the third day.

The Lions will hope to set about the Knights' tail early today, but an outright victory seems out of their reach.

The Cobras, however, have every chance of securing an outright victory over the Dolphins at Kingsmead.

In reply to the Cobras' 360, the Dolphins were skittled for 162 in their first knock. Only Imraan Khan, Ahmed Amla and Jon Kent managed to reach 20 as Vernon Philander and Rory Kleinveldt took four and three wickets respectively.

Khan and Amla shared a partnership of 65 for the third wicket, but the lower middle order and the tail did little to stem the tide.

The Dolphins batted with more resolve in their second innings but lost wickets after initial hard graft. They were 196 for six at stumps, still trailing by two runs.

No play was possible in East London where the Warriors held sway on the first two days over the Titans. The visitors were dismissed for 256 and the Warriors had reached 307 for six by the close on the second day.
