Former national cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has cut his losses and is giving away all his personal mementos collected during his international career.

Gibbs, who mutually terminated his contract with Cricket SA last year, after making revelations about the local game in his autobiography To The Point, promised his more than 19000 followers gifts if they gave him correct answers to questions he had tweeted.

He tweeted yesterday: "OK morn(ing) peeps, just as a small thank u from me, my 20000th follower will receive my last Proteas shirt I will prob(ably) ever wear, Oakleys (sunglasses) and a cap."

But when people already following him complained that it was unfair, he thought of another way to give away his belongings. He said if he could he would give all his followers a shirt, "but there will be one lucky person... unfort(unately) there's only one Oprah, folks".

Later in the day, the Cape Cobras batsman who is currently in Dubai, asked his followers if they remembered his highest score in primary school and the opposition the runs were scored against 24 years ago, when he was only 12-years-old.

Many fans scrambled to find the answer in the indexes of his two books, but couldn't find the answer.

Gibbs added "a pair of green pads, pullover and cap" to the prize.

After 233 unsuccessful replies to his question, Gibbs said: "Goin(g) to throw u another one peeps. Next week I'm giving away my 175 man of match medal vs aus(tralia) in 438 game. Stay tuned for details pls. In case u peeps ask why I giv(e) away stuff, the only thing I wanted was a wcup (World Cup) winners' medal, and that's not gonna happen, so I'll give wats left."

The 36-year-old said his son, Rashard Fuller, had "seen it all", explaining why he was in a such charitable mood.

"I've been givin(g) away clothing etc for the last 20 years peeps, charities, street kids, everybody. I don't mind it so relax I'm comfy wit(h) all this."

In the end a tweeter named @jo-anne-holroyd got the correct answer - Gibbs scored 207 runs against St Agnes Primary School.

Gibbs is in the Cape Cobras' squad for the Pro20 tournament beginning this weekend.
