Graeme Smith’s wife, Morgan Deane, has reacted angrily to reports that she is the one who left the former South African national cricket team captain and branded the report as “untrue and disgusting.”

Smith and his wife on Wednesday announced, through their legal representative David Becker, they are divorcing.

Although the Irish singer has not confirmed or denied that she is the one who has called for an end to their union, she has said that she will respond to the news of their divorce in "my own time."

An anonymous friend of the couple reportedly told local media on Wednesday after news broke that Smith and Deane are to divorce that she was the one who decided to leave Smith.

The friend is quoted as saying that “there were talks of them separating even before he retired in 2014” and that “it’s she who is leaving him.”

Smith, 34, played 117 Tests for South Africa before retiring last year.

Smith married Deane in Cape Town in August 2011. The former couple have two children together.
