Proteas spinner Aaron Phangiso, who was barred from a Proteas team flight in an intoxicated state, has been awarded a Cricket South Africa (CSA) contract for next season.

Phangiso, fully clad in Proteas kit, allegedly offended flight personnel and fellow passengers on an Emirates flight from Dubai to South Africa after the team's ODI series in October last year.

The incident only came to light in mid-January.

When contacted by Sport24, a CSA spokesperson confirmed the incident had been dealt with internally.

To date, no indication of what punishment was meted out to the 32-year-old spinner.

This is reportedly not the first time Phangiso has been involved in an alcohol-related incident. He was arrested for allegedly drunk driving in Soshanguve in April last year.

Phangiso has played 16 ODIs and nine T20 matches for South Africa.

Despite his antics, at Friday's CSA's Board of Directors meeting, Phangiso was awarded a one-year contract for the upcoming season.

A notable exception from the 16-man list who were awarded either one- or two-year contracts was current Proteas spinner, Dane Piedt.

Although yet to play an ODI or T20 for his country, Piedt has played five Tests, most recently the Proteas' 280-run victory at SuperSport Park in Centurion against England.

Turning 26 on March 6, Piedt is also a little over six years Phangiso's junior and has seen his star rise in recent seasons both domestically and on the international stage.
