There’s nothing Old about Trafford for Proteas as Test venues announced

It would be no surprise if more South Africans in the post-isolation era had been to watch football at Old Trafford than to play a test at the cricket ground of the same name. Of the 20 tests SA have played in England since 1994‚ just one has been staged in Manchester - in July 1998 when Gary Kirsten scored 210‚ Jacques Kallis made 132 and Allan Donald took 6/88 in the second innings.England followed on and were dismissed with the scores tied. But there was no more time left in the match‚ which was declared drawn. The suits will doubtless hope something as exciting unfolds when SA’s series in England next year culminates in the fourth test at Old Trafford. The rubber starts at Lord’s before moving on to another rare venue for SA - Nottingham‚ where they have played only two tests in the modern era - before heading back to London for the third match at the Oval.Three one-day internationals‚ one of them a day/nighter‚ and three T20s will be played before the tests.Taunton‚ the venue for the second T20‚ will host a men’s international for the first time since the 1983 World Cup. SA and England will take a break from playing each other for the first 18 days of June‚ when they will be involved in the Champions Trophy.England tour fixtures:May 24: 1st ODI‚ Leeds May 27: 2nd ODI‚ Southampton May 29: 3rd ODI‚ Lord’s June 21: 1st T20‚ Southampton June 23: 2nd T20‚ Taunton June 25: 3rd T20‚ Cardiff July 6-10: 1st test‚ Lord’s July 14-18: 2nd test‚ Nottingham July 27-31: 3rd test‚ the Oval August 4-8: 4th test‚ Manchester..
