The Titans smashed a number of South African domestic one day records during their 169-run‚ bonus-point demolition of the Lions in the Momentum One Day Cup clash at Wanderers Stadium on Friday.

At the same time‚ Titans played themselves into contention for a place in the competition’s playoffs as they climbed to third spot below log-leaders Dolphins and second-placed Warriors with 17 points from seven matches.

Young batsman Aiden Markram smashed the highest individual score in domestic history with a delightful knock of 183 from 138 balls‚ which included 18 boundaries and five sixes‚ for his third List-A ton.

Markram surpassed the previous highest score of 181 that was scored by Reeza Hendricks for the Knights against the Dolphins during the 2014/15 season where his team amassed 415/3.

The Titans total of 415 beat their own record of 400/5 that was achieved against the Cobras in February where Henry Davids scored 128 off 108 balls which included 11 boundaries and six maximums.

Titans also put together their biggest win margin of 169 runs‚ their 415/3 total is the highest South African List-A score while Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi also recorded career-best List A figures of 5-74 after 8.5 overs.

Proteas middle order batsman Farhaan Behardien also contributed immensely to the huge total as he plundered a quick-fire half century of unbeaten 62 runs off 31 balls including six boundaries and four maximums.

To further illustrate the effects of the devastating Titans batting‚ Lions fast bowler Dwaine Pretorius was the least economical with the ball as he leaked a whopping 80 runs for one wicket in his 10 overs.

He was followed by Willem Mulder and experienced Reuran Hendricks who leaked 77 and 71 respectively as they failed to contain the rampant Titans batsmen‚ who dazzled the small Wanderers crowd.

The Titans return to action on Sunday at Kingsmead in Durban to take on the Dolphins in what promises to be a feisty affair‚ and visiting coach Mark Boucher will be expecting more of the same from his players as a win will see them move to second place.

In the other match on Sunday‚ bottom of the log Cobras are at home to the Knights at Newlands where they are largely going to play for pride as they both only have an outside chance of making it to the playoffs.
