Former international umpire Danny Becker dies

Former international umpire Danny Becker died yesterday as a result of complications related to oesophagus cancer.

He was 69.

Becker was a tall medium pacer who represented North Eastern Transvaal and Transvaal playing in 35 first-class and five List-A matches between the 1968/69 and 1974/75 seasons.

It was however as an umpire where he made his mark officiating in 16 ODIs between 1997 and 2001. Becker leaves his wife Hannetjie and two sons.
