Cricket South Africa (CSA) has welcomed an initiative by Lead SA, encouraging the South African public to show their 100% support for the Proteas.

Similar to the successful trend of Football Fridays, where South Africans wore their soccer jerseys in support of Bafana Bafana, people are now being encouraged to show their support for the Proteas ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup in February.

The launch of the ’Cricket Friday’ initiative comes a day before a five-match MTN One Day International series between the Proteas and India.

Cricket South Africa CEO Gerald Majola welcomed the initiative, saying: “CSA supports any initiative that is 100% behind the Proteas. We congratulate Lead SA on backing our boys.

“Lead SA is getting behind all national sports. We supported Bafana Bafana ahead of the World Cup and created much excitement.

We also arranged the very successful parade through the streets of Sandton two days before kick off. It was the biggest show of support for any sport in the history of SA.” explained Yusuf Abramjee of Primedia Group.

“We are encouraging our listeners and readers via Lead SA to wear their cricket shirts every Friday. We have declared Fridays ’Pure Protea Fridays’ and will do so each week from now — and throughout the tournament.” added Abramjee.
