How Oscar helped Kiwi bladerunner break his Paralympic records

Oscar Pistorius will be “fascinated” this weekend to hear how a 22-year-old New Zealander smashed two of his Paralympic records‚ says the bladerunner’s longtime coach.Pistorius‚ who is serving a six-year sentence for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp‚ exchanged e-mails with Liam Malone and advised him on preparation for his events in Rio‚ said Ampie Louw.“This was when Oscar was still waiting for his sentencing hearing and was at home‚ so he had access to computers and the internet. He was able to have an e-mail exchange with the guy‚” Louw told the Sunday Times.This week Malone‚ who was born with fibular hemimelia in both legs and had them amputated‚ broke Pistorius' Paralympic records in the men's 400m and 200m T44.New Zealand 'blade runner' breaks Oscar Pistorius' Paralympic Games record Oscar Pistorius’ London Games record was broken by New Zealand’s Liam Malone at the Rio Paralympics on Tuesday.  “Oscar is kept up to date by his visitors about what is happening at the Olympics and Paralympics and he will hear this weekend how Malone did‚ breaking his records‚” said Louw. “He will be fascinated to hear all about it.”Louw said he did not visit Pistorius. “He has very few visits‚ just an hour here and there‚ but I pass on messages to him via the family who go.”Malone said his e-mails with Pistorius were confined to athletics. “All we talked about was training‚ and not his circumstances. It was purely business‚” he told Channel 4 in the UK.Pistorius won worldwide fame when he became the first disabled athlete to compete at the Olympic Games at London 2012.
